2020 Coachman Acadia 860 review

Coachman have been a bit late to the 8′ wide party. When other manufacturers were introducing wide models and ranges, the 7’7″ VIP and Laser models were the widest caravans available from the Hull maker. This has changed for 2020 with the introduction of the Laser Xcel range and the 860 version of the all new Acadia range. At the end of September 2019 Caravanning Life we were able to view the first prototype Acadia 860 being built at Amsterdam Road. A few weeks later the completed caravan was launched at the Motorhome and Caravan Show held at the NEC.The 860 is the largest caravan in the new Acadia range which replaces both the Vision and Pastiche ranges in the Coachman lineup for 2020.The styling of the Acadia is very familiar to Coachman owners of the last two years with the twin front lockers and wide sunroof being first used on the 2018 VIP rang and rolled out to the reintroduced Laser range for 2019.Layout wise the 860 features a front L shaped lounge, mid U shaped dinette opposite the kitchen and a rear French bed next to the washroom and wardrobe. The design of the 860 does give a three room feel to the caravan. The lounge is a very comfortable place to relax and watch television, which can be placed on the sideboard located on the nearside where a window is fitted, an feature that is missing on some L shaped lounges for 2020 in other makes. The furniture colour scheme is called ‘Tindari’ for 2020.The mid dinette is a good size, and as this a five berth, and not a six berth caravan like many of this layout, the dinette makes into a large single bed rather than a double bed.Opposite the dinette lives the kitchen. The Theford oven and grill have a 3 gas burner and one electric hob. A Russell Hobbs microwave lives over the cooker. The stainless steel Argent sink bowl has a removable draining board which incorporates a small Coachman logo. At the end of the kitchen unit is the table storage locker and the tall Dometic 133 litre fridge freezer. Work tops are in ‘Glitter Bianca’ whilst roof lockers are finished in ‘Dove and Taupe’.Located in the nearside rear corner is the French bed. Roof lockers and shelves surround the bed and a couple of spot lights are fitted. To side there is an opening window and a Midi Heki rooflight is also fitted. A full width padded headboard adds to comfort. At the foot of the bed a television point is located with sockets along side. A folding division separates the bed area from the rest of the caravan. In this area the wardrobe with drawers is also located. The washroom is alongside the bed and the layout is similar to others of this type with the end shower, mid Thetford Cassette toilet and the washroom basin fitted near the door. The washroom is fitted with an opaque window withba blind and flyscreen. The washbasin is of the bowl design that Coachman are using for 2020 and it sits above a storage cupboard. To the side is a heated towel rail which forms part of the Alde central heating system.Specification of the Acadia is quite high. To the near side there are barbecue and mains electric points, heavy duty rear corner steadies, axle shock absorbers and a underslung Al-Ko spare wheel carrier.Internally, pleated blinds are fitted as is a Pioneer radio. Alde central heating is standard with five year anti-freeze. The heating system being iNet ready. The standard soft furnishings are in shades of grey and blue, however if you prefer the colour scheme of the VIP or Laser models these can be fitted at an extra cost.Overall, the Acadia 860 is a good addition to the Coachman lineup. The three room layout works equally well as a luxury two berth or as a family caravan. Specification wise the Acadia does not come fitted with Al-Ko ATC stability control or with any standard USB sockets, something that is surprising considering the price, however the finish of the furniture and soft furnishings live up to the usual Coachman standard.Caravanning Life rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⬜ 4/5£27,360 plus OTR charges.Internal length: 6.265m 20’7″Overall length: 7.895m / 25’11″Overall width 2.440m / 8’0″MIRO: 1700kg (estimate)Plated MTPLM: 1870kg (estimate)Maximum MTPLM: 2000kg (at extra cost)Details as supplied by Coachman Caravan Company.www.coachman.co.uk© DB MMXIX
