Take the compact Lunar Aviva, liberally sprinkle extra equipment, keep the weight down and what to you have, the dealer special Lunar Cosmos 352 from Campbells Caravans, based in Lostock Hall, just around the corner from where they are made.
The award winning Aviva has stay much the same in style for over a decade now. There is no front sunroof or full height front panel. The graphics have changed over the years, and for 2019 green and dark grey are the choices. The graphics, apart from the change from Ariva to Cosmos badging, stays the same on the 352.
One thing the Ariva and Cosmos 352 share is the narrow width of 2.04m (6’7″), the narrowest caravan made by a main manufacturer.
Some may question the value of a small and narrow caravan, however twenty years ago there were a few narrow with caravans to choose from, such as the Elddis Elf, Abbey Iona and the Compass Echo and Lynx, and for those not wanting a large caravan or with restricted parking at home, the Ariva has fitted the bill perfectly.
So, what do you get with the Cosmos over the standard Ariva? Extras fitted include external gas barbecue point, off side service light, DAB radio, USB sockets, alarm and Auto-changeover dual gas regulator as well as different soft furnishings.
The layout is classic two berth with front beds, end kitchen and corner washroom. The bed make into either two singles of 5’11” x 2’3″ or a double of 6’1″ x 5″11″. Located under the offside bed is the Truma Combi 4kw space and water heater.
The rear kitchen features a Thetford K Series four burner job, Stainless Steel sink together with roof locker and under sink storage. To the right of the kitchen across from the door the microwave is located at lower height than in some.
Opposite the microwave and storage cupboard lives the wardrobe and black panelled Dometic fridge. The location of the fridge is not too far from the kitchen and ideally placed over the axle.
Located in the corner between the wardrobe and kitchen lives the all-in-one wet room washroom. Finished in clinical white, the washroom has a fixed corner basin with separate shower controls. An opening opaque window all light into the room.
So, overall is the Cosmos 352 a good caravan? Yes it is. It may not be everyone’s choice due to the limited space and slightly dated looks, however if you are in the market for a compact caravan the Ariva and Ariva based dealer specials are worth a look.
It should be mentioned that at the time of writing, Lunar Caravans are in administration, however a provisional offer for the company has been accepted. The future of the Ariva and Cosmos 352 is therefore unknown for 2020.
